- Halfway through shooting, Italian authorities seized the film's entire armory of prop firearms, fearing the guns could reach terrorists after the Red Brigades kidnapped and murdered Prime Minister Aldo Moro. - Quentin Tarantino took the title of his 2009 film Inglourious Basterds from this one, which is not a remake; Bo Svenson appears in the Tarantino film as an American colonel and Enzo G. Castellari as a Wehrmacht general.
