Plot summary
Two fights in their prime left Henry "Razor" Sharp and Billy "The Kid" McDonnen with one win each and with the only defeat of each man's career dealt by the other. Their rematch never happened: Razor retired without explanation, costing Kid the payday. Years later Razor is short of money and working in a shipyard, covering the care of his ailing former trainer, Lightning Conlon. Dante Slate Jr., a promoter whose father's dealings left Razor in financial trouble, asks him to do motion capture work for a video game, and Razor accepts the $15,000. Kid, invited to the same session, taunts him and the two brawl, wrecking the studio; the footage spreads online and gives Dante the idea of a final grudge match.

- Stallone was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor for this film, along with Bullet to the Head and Escape Plan, but lost to Jaden Smith for After Earth; it was his 14th bid for the prize, a record, which he has won four times, also a record.
- During training for Grudge Match, Sylvester Stallone brought his weight down to 168 pounds, the lowest he had weighed since 1981.
- Stallone and De Niro had both previously been in successful boxing films, Rocky and Raging Bull respectively, and the two had already worked together once before, in Cop Land.
- Grudge Match grossed $7 million in its opening weekend, finishing in 11th place at the box office; made on a $40 million budget, the film made $45 million worldwide.
