Plot summary
Jane Hayes is an American woman whose love of Jane Austen, and of Mr. Darcy in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice, has left her no patience for an ordinary boyfriend. She spends her savings on a stay at Austenland, an English resort where guests dress in period costume, take pseudonyms and live as Regency ladies, with romance from male actors promised and no touching allowed. Jane arrives on the cheapest copper package while the other guests have paid for platinum, and the manager, Mrs. Wattlesbrook, treats her with disdain. She befriends a fellow guest, Elizabeth Charming, and meets her actor companions, Colonel Andrews and the reserved Mr. Henry Nobley, Mrs. Wattlesbrook's nephew, along with another guest, Lady Amelia Heartwright, who flirts with Nobley. Martin, the resort's driver, flirts with Jane.
