Plot summary
Nikko Alexander sings lead for Flux, and at a nightclub he kicks over an amp at the end of a song, destroying it for effect. The other band members throw him out, and his girlfriend Amy, a guitarist, breaks up with him. Courtney, who leads the show choir Spectacular!, sees the set and asks him to watch the group at a carnival and consider joining for a national contest and its cash prize. Nikko declines. The producer Mr. Dickinson then tells him he could earn a record deal if he pays for equipment for an excellent demo, and Nikko remembers Courtney's offer of half the contest earnings. He approaches the choir, and though Courtney refuses at first, she lets him in after he performs for the group.
