Plot summary
Mitchie Torres has a strong voice and wants a summer at Camp Rock, a music camp her family cannot afford. Her mother, Connie, takes a job cooking for the camp, so Mitchie attends at a discount and helps in the kitchen between classes. Camper Caitlyn Geller befriends her. At Opening Jam, a camp meet-and-greet, surrounded by wealthy and connected campers, Mitchie tells Tess Tyler, Ella Pador and Peggy Dupree that her mother heads the Chinese department at Hot Tunes TV, and Tess invites her into her group. Shane Gray, lead singer of Connect 3, arrives as an instructor to repair his image. He hears a girl singing in a hall but does not see her, and he sets out to find the voice.

- The film was watched by 8.9 million viewers on the night of its premiere, which makes it the third most-watched Disney Channel Original Movie of all time, behind only High School Musical 2 and Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.
- The soundtrack reached the top ten in six countries and spent four weeks at number three on the US Billboard 200 after selling over 188,000 copies in its first week. It was certified Platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than a million copies in the United States.
- Camp Rock 3 entered production in September 2025, with Lovato executive producing and the Jonas Brothers and Canals-Barrera reprising their roles. Principal photography began in Vancouver on 15 September 2025 and wrapped on 1 November.
- Disney turned the film into a singing competition, My Camp Rock, which ran from 2009 to 2010 in five international editions and invited children aged 8 to 16 to film themselves singing "This Is Me" and "We Rock" as a solo, a duet or a group.
- Camp Rock was filmed between September and October 2007 at two real Ontario summer camps: YMCA Camp Wanakita in Haliburton and Kilcoo Camp in Minden.
