David Zayas

David Zayas is a Puerto Rican actor who came to acting after serving in the Air Force and spending almost 15 years as a New York City police officer, a background that shaped him as a character actor. Born in Ponce and raised in the Bronx, he has belonged to the LAByrinth Theater Company since 1992. That police experience led to a long run of law enforcement roles, but he also played figures outside it, among them the mob boss Sal Maroni on the Batman prequel Gotham and Enrique Morales on the prison drama Oz. He is best known for playing Angel Batista across all eight seasons of Dexter and in the spinoff Dexter: Resurrection. He was a corrupt policeman in 16 Blocks (2006) and appeared in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables (2010) and Skyline (2010). He also portrayed Detective Esteban Flores in the television film Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret (2013).
