Plot summary
James Bond is in Istanbul with MI6 colleague Eve when the mercenary Patrice gets away with a hard drive carrying the names of undercover NATO agents. During the chase, M orders Eve to fire, Eve hits Bond, and he falls into a river; MI6 lists him as dead. Months later, MI6's systems are hacked and its headquarters bombed, and M is questioned by Gareth Mallory, chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee, about how she runs the service. Bond resurfaces in London, retakes his field assessments, which he barely passes, and is sent after Patrice, a hitman with no other known names. The trail runs from an art gallery meeting with the new quartermaster Q to Shanghai and on to a Macau casino, where a woman named Sévérine points him toward her employer.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Skyfall (2012)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Daniel Craig got drunk at Hugh Jackman's Christmas party and offered Sam Mendes the job of directing the next Bond movie; the next morning he had to explain to Broccoli that he might have offered Mendes the film.
- Albert Finney was cast as Kincade, but the producers briefly considered approaching Sean Connery for the part as a nod to the 50th anniversary of the series, deciding against it because they felt his presence would be seen as stunt casting and might disengage the audience.
- The Bond theme "Skyfall" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, the first Bond song to win and the fourth to be nominated, and also took the Brit Award for Best British Single in 2013.
- On 30 December 2012 Skyfall became the first film to gross more than £100 million in the UK, and that same day crossed $1 billion worldwide, only the fourteenth film and the first Bond film to do so.
- Bond stunt double Andy Lister dived backwards off the 300 ft drop of the Varda Viaduct outside Adana during the train fight, with a crane on a train carriage holding a safety line.
- The lair of the villain Raoul Silva was inspired by Hashima, an abandoned island off Nagasaki, Japan, which the film places near Macau; Sam Mendes said the sequence used large sets of city streets and computer-generated establishing shots, and the setting came after Daniel Craig met Swedish film-maker Thomas Nordanstad.
- Skyfall was the first Bond film shot digitally: Roger Deakins used Arri Alexa cameras for the entire production, which began on 7 November 2011 in London.
- Screenwriter Peter Morgan was originally commissioned to write a script but left the project when MGM filed for bankruptcy and production of the film stalled.
