  • Both Danny Boyle and Alfonso CuarĂ³n had been attached to direct the film before it was confirmed that Joe Wright would take it, after Ronan prompted the producers to consider him.
  • The story and script were written on spec by Seth Lochhead while he was a student at Vancouver Film School, and he finalized the script in 2006, with David Farr providing later changes.
  • Joe Wright said the film's theme is a fantasy about overcoming the dark side during the rites of passage of adolescence, and that he was shaped by the violent, dark, cautionary fairy tales he grew up on, by the patterns of narrative he prefers because of his dyslexia, and by working as a child in his parents' puppetry company.
  • Temperatures during the Finland shoot sometimes fell as low as -33 C, but Ronan said Finland brought out the fairy tale side of the story: they were shooting on a frozen lake surrounded by pine trees covered in snow.
  • Hanna was later turned into a television series, its eight-episode first season released on 29 March 2019, with a second season premiering on 3 July 2020 and a third on 24 November 2021.
  • In its opening weekend Hanna came second at the U.S. box office behind Hop with $12.4 million, and by the time it closed on 7 July 2011 it had taken $40.3 million in North America and $25.1 million elsewhere, a worldwide total of $65.3 million.
