Plot summary
Opposition to the Vietnam War came from inside the ranks as well as from the streets. Veterans of that resistance sit for interviews, and the documentary draws on television news reports, newspaper and magazine images, and film shot by soldiers and civilian activists. Men and women recount refusing combat duty, declining to train other troops and declining to ship out to the front lines, and the punishments that followed. Dr. Howard Levy, who refused to train Special Forces troops and was court-martialed, and Navy nurse Susan Schnall are among those who speak. Underground newspapers and antiwar coffeehouses near bases gave soldiers places to meet, and the accounts reach from stockades and brigs to the battlefields of Vietnam.
