Plot summary
Why We Fight examines the military-industrial complex and its hold on American life for half a century. Taking its title from the government's World War II propaganda series, the documentary argues that in every decade since then the public was misled into war, most recently the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Politicians, former intelligence analysts and writers give their accounts. Three lives carry the argument: a Vietnam veteran whose son was killed on September 11, 2001 and who asked that his son's name be written on a bomb bound for Iraq; a 23-year-old New Yorker who joined the Army after his mother's death, with debts and little money; and an explosives scientist who reached the country as a refugee child from Vietnam. President Dwight D. Eisenhower's farewell address warned the country about the complex.
