Plot summary
Night Will Fall chronicles the making of German Concentration Camps Factual Survey, a 1945 British documentary assembled from footage shot by British, Soviet, and American cameramen as Allied forces liberate Nazi concentration camps in 1944 and 1945. A British Ministry of Information official initiates the project to create undeniable evidence of Nazi crimes, enlisting a writer and an editor, and bringing a Hollywood director over to advise on its structure. The film interweaves that archival material with interviews of survivors, liberators, and the cameramen themselves. It also examines how the original documentary is shelved before completion and remains unseen for decades, until the Imperial War Museums restore and finish it under its original title.
