Plot summary
In 1968 the Democratic National Convention came to Chicago while the Vietnam War divided the country. Demonstrators who had been refused permits for public protests clashed with the city's police, and more than 50 million people watched the confrontations on television. Eight of the loudest anti-war voices were charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot, among them the counterculture figures Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin and the pacifist David Dellinger. Seven were defended by Leonard Weinglass and William Kunstler, who faced the prosecutor Tom Foran. The eighth, Bobby Seale, co-chair of the Black Panther Party, chose to represent himself. Archival footage and animated recreations of the courtroom carry the story.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Chicago 10 (2007)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Chicago 10 takes its title from Jerry Rubin's remark that the defendants were really the Chicago Ten rather than the Chicago Eight, because their two lawyers went down with them.
- Brett Morgen kept 1960s music out of the film, calling it a cliché, and used Black Sabbath, Rage Against the Machine, the Beastie Boys and Eminem instead because he saw Chicago 10 as a film about 2007 and 2008 rather than 1968.
- The animated courtroom sequences of Chicago 10 were informed by defendant Jerry Rubin's description of the trial as a "cartoon show".
