Plot summary

By the late 1960s and into the early 1970s, American politics was sharply divided over the war in Vietnam and over the struggle for civil rights at home. Many young activists found that marches and other peaceful forms of resistance were proving ineffectual, and a faction argued for an extreme approach that the government could not dismiss. That faction, the Weather Underground, aimed to ally with the Black Panthers and confront the United States government directly. Its members took part in street riots and then moved to bombing targets linked to the government and to local seats of power. The film draws on archival footage and on interviews with people from both sides of the conflict, including the FBI's pursuit of the group.
