Plot summary
Documentary programs give the Middle East campaigns of World War I little attention, apart from the Dardanelles and Gallipoli. The fighting ends the Ottoman Empire in 1918, and Middle Eastern oil reserves are already a strategic concern for Western economies. After the war, Britain and France divide most of the Ottoman lands into spheres of influence. The West backs the creation of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Turkish nationalists fight Western domination for five years before the remaining territory becomes Turkey in 1923.
