Plot summary
Dr. Nate Samuels, recently widowed, brings his daughters Meredith and Norah to the Mopani Reserve in South Africa, a trip meant to close the distance that opened between him and his girls. Martin Battles, a wildlife biologist and the reserve's manager, is an old friend who once introduced Nate to his wife. Martin takes the family to the village where she grew up, and there Nate admits his guilt over pulling away from her after their separation, before her terminal cancer. Meredith, the elder, is rebellious and argumentative; Norah is younger and more sensitive. The next day, while the family tours the reserve's restricted areas, Martin shows them a local lion pride he helped raise.
