Plot summary
The Lady in Black dies in a Hollywood apartment. Among her belongings the detective on the case finds a single contact, a business card for the young filmmaker Paul Harts. Questioned, Paul describes meeting the old woman half a year earlier at the Hollywood Forever cemetery and persuading her to tell her story on camera. She said she had been Rudolph Valentino's last love, and her account goes back to 1926, when she worked as a nurse's aid in New York and he, on tour for his newest picture, collapsed and was brought to a hospital. While he drifted in and out of visions of his Hollywood life, Pam, a deaf-mute fan of his, also worked at the hospital.
