Monte Markham
Biography
Monte Markham is an American actor whose work spans film, television, and Broadway. Born in Manatee County, Florida, he earned a master's degree in theater from the University of Georgia. At the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 1961 he played Horatio in Hamlet, and he made his Broadway debut in Irene in 1973, winning a Theatre World Award. On television, he had dual roles on The Second Hundred Years from 1967 to 1968, starred in the series Mr. Deeds Goes to Town in 1969 and 1970, and held the title role in The New Perry Mason from 1973 to 1974. He later played Captain Don Thorpe on Baywatch from 1989 to 1992 and narrated documentary series for the History Channel. His films include Hour of the Gun (1967), Guns of the Magnificent Seven (1969), Midway (1976), Airport '77 (1977), and We Are Still Here (2015).

Markham was cast as the title character in The New Perry Mason, and taking that role cost him the lead in The Six Million Dollar Man, which premiered the same year.

In 1973, Markham first appeared on Broadway in the show Irene, and his work in that production earned him the Theatre World Award.
Behind the camera
Markham worked as a consultant, director, producer and narrator on A&E's Classroom, The Great Ships and Air Combat. In the mid to late 1990s he also narrated documentary series that aired on the History Channel.
