Esther Minciotti
Biography
Esther Minciotti was an Italian actress who was born in Turin and emigrated to the United States, settling in New York, where she appeared on Broadway in two plays, one running from November 1949 to January 1950. She made eight American films between 1949 and 1956. Her best known part was Theresa Piletti, the mother of Ernest Borgnine's character, in Delbert Mann's Marty (1955), and the following year she played the mother of Henry Fonda in Alfred Hitchcock's The Wrong Man (1956). On television she appeared in five series in the 1950s, having created the role of Theresa Piletti opposite Rod Steiger in a 1953 episode of The Philco Television Playhouse, directed by Delbert Mann from a screenplay by Paddy Chayefsky, two years before the film version.
