Shadows on the Wall (2015) on Netflix

Plot summary

Palmer Marshall cannot keep his classes, his personal life or his career on track. He wants to build something that could change the world, and he spends his waking hours on the attempt. Anxiety and personality disorders weigh on him, and he keeps working anyway. What he is chasing is a device built to reach past the edges of the known universe, a machine he means to be remembered for, and he believes he is close to a discovery that would be a large one. Two other students work alongside him on the project, and the failures come far more often than the results.
