Biography

Vicky Krieps is a Luxembourgish and German actress who has worked across American, Luxembourgish, French and German productions. Born in Hesperange, Luxembourg, she trained at Zurich University of the Arts and performed at Schauspielhaus Zürich before taking numerous roles in Luxembourgish film and television. Her early foreign credits include Hanna (2011), Rommel (2012) and A Most Wanted Man (2014). She broke through opposite Daniel Day-Lewis in Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread (2017), earning critical acclaim. She went on to star in The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018), The Last Vermeer (2019), Old (2021), Bergman Island (2021) and The Survivor (2022). Her performance as Empress Elisabeth of Austria in Corsage (2022) won the European Film Award for Best Actress and the Un Certain Regard Best Performance Prize. She also appeared in The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan (2023) and The Dead Don't Hurt (2024), and in 2023 she joined the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

    Krieps first acted at the Lycee de Garcons secondary school in Luxembourg City and trained at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg. Instead of a drama school, she joined a social project at a South African township primary school near Knysna, which confirmed her resolve to study acting.

    Krieps served as an executive producer on Corsage, in which she played Empress Elisabeth of Austria, and won the Un Certain Regard Best Performance Prize at the 75th Cannes Film Festival for the role.
