Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Three Musketeers: Milady (2023)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- François Civil, cast as D'Artagnan, arrived at his early-2020 meeting with producer Dimitri Rassam with a trimmed mustache and a little ponytail, claiming The Three Musketeers was his bedside book; he had bought the audiobook two days earlier and listened at triple speed to bluff his way through.
- François Civil was left temporarily blind in one eye for 36 hours by a wrongly applied make-up product on set, and he shot D'Artagnan's final scenes with a broken foot, suffered falling off a stepladder at home, hidden in a huge foam shoe.
- The new character Hannibal, played by Ralph Amoussou, was based on the true story of Louis Anniaba, the prince of Assinie and France's first Black musketeer.
- The film was the first French adaptation of The Three Musketeers in 62 years, the previous one being Bernard Borderie's two-part saga of 1961.
- Director Martin Bourboulon initially banned the musketeers' famous feathered hat, fearing it would make his costumes look old-fashioned; costume designer Thierry Delettre changed his mind and the hat was adopted.
- François Civil thought D'Artagnan was too insistent in his flirting with Constance Bonacieux, so he got the scenes between them rewritten to add more respect and consent to the seduction.
- Almost no digital effects were used in the film, only enough to erase contemporary objects such as bus shelters and parking meters that appeared in the background.
