Biography

Venantino Venantini was an Italian actor known internationally for cult and exploitation films of the 1970s and 1980s. Born in Fabriano, he studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris after winning a scholarship and took extra roles, including Ben-Hur (1959), to support his studies. His first screen appearance was in Steno's Un giorno in pretura, and his first important role came in Franco Rossi's Odissea Nuda (1961). Over a career of more than 190 screen credits, he appeared in cult favorites such as Seven Deaths in the Cat's Eye (1973), Black Emanuelle (1975), City of the Living Dead (1980), The New Barbarians (1983), and The Adventures of Hercules (1985). He worked repeatedly with French director Georges Lautner, making ten films together, and also acted for Ettore Scola, Luciano Salce, and Dino Risi. He won the Nastro d'Argento for Best Supporting Actor for The Dinner (1998), and in 2017 the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia held a retrospective of his work.
