Sylvia Miles
Biography
Sylvia Miles was an American actress whose career began on stage in 1947, before she moved into television and film in 1954. Raised in Greenwich Village, she studied at the Actors Studio and worked extensively Off-Broadway, later starring in a one-woman musical about her own life, It's Me, Sylvia!, in 1981. She received two Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress, for Midnight Cowboy (1969) and Farewell, My Lovely (1975), the first for a role that kept her on screen only a few minutes. Her other films included Andy Warhol's Heat (1972), Evil Under the Sun (1982), Crossing Delancey (1988) and She-Devil (1989), along with the Oliver Stone film Wall Street (1987), in which she played a real-estate agent, a part she reprised in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010). She also appeared on Broadway in a 1976 revival of The Night of the Iguana. Miles died in 2019.
