Plot summary
Sally Todd, an actress whose career has faded, meets Joey Davis, a former child actor who lives in a cheap Hollywood motel and hustles for money. Nearly every woman he meets wants him. She moves him into her enormous mansion as a boy toy and looks for acting work for him. Her daughter Jessica, a feminist who recently came out as a lesbian, is among the women drawn to him.

Andrea Feldman, who had a much larger role in Heat than in earlier Warhol films, committed suicide shortly before the film was released.- The newspaper advert for Heat was censored in the New York Daily News, with a t-shirt painted on Joe Dallesandro and a bra strap on Sylvia Miles.
- Heat was produced for less than $100,000 and developed without a formal written plot, shot over two weeks in a Hollywood mansion in 1971, with its love scenes filmed months later at Andy Warhol's East Hampton house.
- Heat became the first Warhol production permitted to screen in Italy when it was shown at the 33rd Venice International Film Festival in August 1972.
