Biography
Sacha Baron Cohen is an English actor, filmmaker and comedian who created and played a set of satirical characters, most famously Ali G and Borat Sagdiyev. He studied history at Cambridge and trained as a clown at the École Philippe Gaulier in Paris before finding fame on The 11 O'Clock Show, where he won a British Comedy Award for Best Male Newcomer. He then created and starred in Da Ali G Show, which brought him two British Academy Television Awards. His character Borat drove the mockumentaries Borat (2006) and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2020); the first earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor and an Academy Award nomination for its screenplay. He played Abbie Hoffman in The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), earning him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Academy Awards. He also voiced King Julien XIII in the Madagascar series and took the role of Thénardier in Les Misérables (2012).

Early training
Baron Cohen trained as a clown in Paris at the Ecole Philippe Gaulier under master-clown Philippe Gaulier, who later said of him: "He was a good clown, full of spirit."

After he left university, Baron Cohen spent a period working as a fashion model, and this came before he found fame.
A role that slipped away
In September 2010, representatives for Baron Cohen confirmed he would play Freddie Mercury in the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic. He left the project in July 2013, citing "creative differences" with Queen's surviving members, and Rami Malek later took the role.
