Plot summary
Da West Staines Massiv is Ali G's gang of wannabe gangsters in Staines, and their chief rivals are Da East Staines Massiv. The John Nike Leisure Centre is the group's cherished hangout, and Ali also teaches an after-school club there. When the local council decides the building will be demolished, the massiv organizes a protest. While staging a hunger strike, Ali is found attached to railings by Deputy Prime Minister David Carlton, who wants to use him to damage the Prime Minister's reputation. Carlton puts Ali forward as a candidate for Staines, and during the campaign Ali alienates most of the electorate.

- In 2012, the town council of Staines officially renamed the town Staines-upon-Thames, partly to shed the association with the film's fictional street gangs.
- In the original cut the film opens with Ali appearing over the BBFC certificate and changing the categorisation from 15 to 18, then warning about semen on cinema seats and suggesting cannabis would improve the film; that 30-second introduction is missing from all international cinema and current home video releases.
- The fictional John Nike Leisure Centre that Ali G fights to save is a real London gym, Willesden Sports Centre, which really was later demolished and replaced with a new leisure center.
