Biography

Millie Perkins is an American retired actress who began as a model and became known for her debut as the title character in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959). Born in Passaic, New Jersey, she grew up in Fair Lawn before working as a receptionist in New York City, where a photographer helped launch her modeling career. Director George Stevens chose her for the Anne Frank role, and she received almost universally excellent reviews and a Photoplay Award for Most Promising Female Star. After a contract with 20th Century Fox, she appeared in Wild in the Country (1961) and later in Monte Hellman's Westerns The Shooting (1966) and Ride in the Whirlwind (1966), as well as Wild in the Streets (1968) and Ensign Pulver (1964). She later played mother roles in At Close Range (1986), The Chamber (1996), and The Lost City (2005), and had television parts on Knots Landing and Any Day Now. She retired from acting after 2006.
