Plot summary
Blind Dick and his gang hold up a stagecoach, killing the guard and robbing the passengers. Three cowboys, Vern, Wes and Otis, reach the outlaws' remote camp and settle down for the night, not knowing who is there. The two groups of men eye each other with suspicion. In the morning a vigilante hanging party surrounds the place and a shootout starts, the posse firing on the shed where the outlaws have been sleeping. Vern and Wes get away on horseback with the posse in pursuit, hunted now as gang members and blamed for a robbery they had no part in.

- The two films were hits in France in 1969, with The Shooting playing a year in Paris and Ride in the Whirlwind six months, and Hellman said being lionized in France gave him a brief time of being very much in demand in Hollywood.
