Martine Beswick
Biography
Martine Beswick is a Jamaican-born performer and model whose best-known work includes two James Bond films. Raised in Port Antonio, Jamaica, she moved to London as a teenager and left school in 1955 to work. After auditioning for Dr. No, she played Zora, a gypsy, in From Russia with Love (1963), a role that included a fight scene with her rival Vida, and she was billed as Martin Beswick in that film's titles. She returned to the series as Paula Caplan in Thunderball (1965). Later credits include One Million Years B.C. (1966) with Raquel Welch, the Spaghetti Western A Bullet for the General (1967), the Hammer productions Prehistoric Women (1967) and Dr Jekyll & Sister Hyde (1971), and Oliver Stone's debut Seizure (1974). She moved to Hollywood in the 1970s, worked often in television, and led The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood (1980). In 2019 the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards inducted her into their Monster Kid Hall of Fame.

Beswick tried out for Dr. No, the first Bond film, but ended up in the second one, From Russia with Love, playing the fiery gypsy girl Zora.

Beswick owned a removals business in London, and she is now semiretired, apart from guest appearances at international Bond conventions.
About the name
Starting with Melvin and Howard in 1980, Beswick spelled her surname "Beswicke". She went back to Beswick in the mid-1990s, and Wide Sargasso Sea in 1993 was her final credit under the longer spelling.
A first
Beswick returned to acting in 2018 after 24 years away from the screen, appearing in House of the Gorgon with fellow Hammer actors Caroline Munro, Veronica Carlson and Christopher Neame.
