Plot summary
Four internationally wanted criminals steal a missile-cloaking microchip worth ten million dollars in Silicon Valley and conceal it in a radio-controlled toy car so it clears security at San Francisco International Airport. Another passenger, Mrs. Hess, picks up their bag by mistake and carries it to Chicago. The four follow and search her suburban neighborhood house by house. Alex Pruitt, a boy in the neighborhood, shovels Mrs. Hess's driveway and is given the toy car as payment. He then comes down with chicken pox and has to stay home from school, and while watching the neighbors he sees the criminals inside one of the nearby houses and calls the police. They find no evidence of a break-in and warn him about calling in false reports.
