Plot summary
Betty Lou Perkins is a librarian in New Orleans who goes unnoticed by nearly everyone around her, including her husband Alex, a police detective. When a criminal kingpin is shot dead in the city, Betty Lou comes upon the gun. She brings it to the police station to report it, but no one pays her any mind until she fires the weapon into a bathroom trash can. The officers and Alex, unaware that she can hear them, agree that a woman so timid could never have done anything wrong. Fed up, Betty Lou announces that she is the killer, and they arrest her.
