Henry Wilcoxon
Biography
Henry Wilcoxon was a British-American actor and producer, born in Roseau, Dominica, who became best known as a member of Cecil B. DeMille's stock company. He began on the British stage in the late 1920s, joined the Birmingham Repertory, and made his screen debut in 1931. His films included Mrs. Miniver (1942), Unconquered (1947), Samson and Delilah (1949), A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1949), and The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), on which he was also associate producer and helped it win the Academy Award for Best Picture. In later years he worked in television and film, including Caddyshack (1980) as Bishop Pickering, and was given a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

Big break
While casting Cleopatra, the speaker heard a resonant, manly voice from a test film and asked who the actor was. Told his name was Harry Wilcoxon, being changed to Henry, the speaker said he was Marc Antony.
First role
Wilcoxon made his stage debut in November 1927 at Blackpool, playing a supporting part in an adaptation of Ethel M. Dell's novel The 100th Chance. He then joined the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Behind the camera
Wilcoxon played the vicar in Mrs. Miniver, one of three of his films released in 1942. He and director William Wyler wrote and re-wrote the key sermon the night before it was shot, and President Roosevelt used the speech as a morale builder.
