Jonathan Ke Quan
Biography
Ke Huy Quan is an American actor who began as a child performer and went on to win an Academy Award. Born in South Vietnam and raised in California, he was cast at thirteen as Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), a performance that earned him a Saturn Award nomination, and played Data in The Goonies (1985). As a young adult he appeared as Jasper Kwong on the sitcom Head of the Class and had a small part in Encino Man (1992), then spent nineteen years away from acting, choreographing stunts and assisting directors. He returned with the Netflix film Finding ʻOhana (2021) and Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), winning a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He has since appeared in the series Loki and voiced roles in Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024) and Zootopia 2 (2025).

Behind the award
In January 2020, Quan joined the cast of Everything Everywhere All at Once, which came out in March 2022. His performance won him a Screen Actors Guild Award, making him the first Asian man to win an individual category at those awards.
Early training
While filming Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Quan learned Taekwondo from Philip Tan, and afterward he trained with Tan Tao-liang.
Big break
Quan was inspired to return to acting after the success of Crazy Rich Asians in 2018, and in 2019 he approached director Jude Weng for a role in Finding ʻOhana after overhearing her describe the film as The Goonies meets Indiana Jones.
