John Quade

Biography

John Quade was an American character actor whose rough appearance led to work as brutish villains and ruthless authority figures. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, he spent time as an aerospace engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory before a talent scout in a Pasadena restaurant asked him about acting. He began on television in 1968 with Bonanza and made his film debut four years later. He was best known as Cholla, the leader of the Black Widows motorcycle gang, in the Clint Eastwood movies Every Which Way but Loose (1978) and Any Which Way You Can (1980). He also appeared with Eastwood in High Plains Drifter (1973) and The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), played Sheriff Briggs in the miniseries Roots, and acted in Papillon. On television he had starring roles in the brief series Flatbush (1979) and Lucky Luke (1992).
