Plot summary
Sam Burgade has retired as a captain of the Arizona Rangers and settled in the Arizona Territory, hoping for a quiet life in 1909. Word comes from the Yuma Territorial Prison that Zach Provo, a half-Indian outlaw Burgade once put away, has broken out of a chain gang with other convicts. Provo blames Burgade for his imprisonment and for the death of his Indian wife, killed years earlier in a crossfire. Burgade expects Provo to come for him and rides out with a squad escorting a gold shipment.
