Helen Shaver

Biography

Helen Shaver is a Canadian actress and director who started out in Canadian films and won a Canadian Screen Award for her lead performance in In Praise of Older Women (1978). She went on to appear in The Amityville Horror (1979) and The Osterman Weekend (1983), and her performance in Desert Hearts (1985) drew critical praise and a Bronze Leopard Award at the Locarno International Film Festival. She played Paul Newman's love interest in The Color of Money (1986), and later appeared in The Craft (1996) and Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996). On television she starred in United States and Jessica Novak, and in Poltergeist: The Legacy from 1996 to 1999, which brought a Saturn Award nomination. She began directing in the mid-1990s and later directed more than 50 shows, earning an Emmy nomination for the television film Summer's End and winning a Directors Guild of America Award.
