Gregory Itzin
Biography
Gregory Itzin was an American character actor known for his work in film, television, and theater. Born in Washington, D.C., he received his training at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater and acted on stages around the country. His stage career included the world premiere and Broadway run of The Kentucky Cycle, for which he received Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations, and award-winning productions with the Matrix Theatre Company. On television, he became best known as President Charles Logan on the action series 24, a role that earned him Emmy nominations for supporting actor and guest actor. He also portrayed John Ashcroft in the television movie DC 9/11: Time of Crisis (2003). He had a recurring role on The Mentalist and appeared on Covert Affairs. In film, he played a psychiatrist in I Know Who Killed Me (2007) and a prison warden in Law Abiding Citizen (2009). His final film role was in the documentary The Other Fellow (2022).

Itzin did not have to audition for the role of Vice President Charles Logan on 24, because he had auditioned for a part during the show's second season and knew one of the producers.

Itzin's first television appearance was as a contestant on the game show Whew! in 1979, before he moved into guest starring roles.

Itzin trained at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, originally intending to become a theater actor, and went on to act on many stages across the country.

Itzin played five different roles across the various Star Trek series over the years, beginning with the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Dax" in 1993.

Before he took the part, Itzin appeared in a cheese commercial as a Presidential Candidate. The character was called a "doofus" because he did not like cheese.
