Plot summary
At the Goldeneye estate in Jamaica in 1952, Ian Fleming is writing his first novel and needs a name for his secret agent; he lifts it from an American ornithologist who studies the birds of the Caribbean. Seventy years on, the film follows men around the world who carry that name. Gunnar James Bond Schäfer runs a 007 museum in Sweden and collects memorabilia devoted to the character. James Alexander Bond is a gay theatre director in New York who finds the name a burden. James Bond Jr. awaits trial for murder at Indiana State Prison. The ornithologist whose name Fleming took, and his wife Mary, of Philadelphia, confront Fleming over the effect on their lives. An unnamed woman in England is among those the film follows. Interviews mix with live action and re-enactments.
