Donnelly Rhodes

Biography

Donnelly Rhodes was a Canadian actor who moved from the Stratford Festival stage into a long career in television and film, best known for a handful of series roles. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he trained at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and the National Theatre School of Canada and graduated in 1963. He played Phillip Chancellor II on The Young and the Restless before taking the part of the escaped convict Dutch Leitner on Soap, and later played Detective Leo Shannon on Da Vinci's Inquest for seven years, a part that earned him a Gemini Award and three further nominations. He was Grant Roberts on Danger Bay and Doctor Cottle on Battlestar Galactica, and his film work included Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Neptune Factor (1973) and Goldenrod (1976). He received the Earle Grey Award in 2006.

Rhodes worked as a mechanic in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He trained at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and the National Theatre School of Canada, then joined the Stratford Festival after his 1963 graduation.
