Plot summary
Jake Hampton and his brother Ethan are building an inn when a Russian satellite falls out of the sky near their small town. Short on money, they collect the wreckage and sell it to Earl, a local sculptor who has built a giant iron figure for the town's centennial celebration. Alien matter from the satellite spreads onto the figure, which comes to life and walks off on its own. Amanda Spelling, Jake's high school sweetheart, has returned to town with her daughter Claire to stay at her aunt's house after separating from her husband. Reports of the walking figure reach the sheriff, who does not believe them, and Jake takes his shotgun and goes after it.
