David Ryall
Biography
David Ryall was an English actor who worked in theater, film and television. Born in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex, he won a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1962 and the Caryl Brahms Award for a Musical. He joined Laurence Olivier's National Theatre company at the Old Vic between 1965 and 1973, performing in plays such as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and The Royal Hunt of the Sun, and won the Clarence Derwent Award in 1985 for Coriolanus. On television he played leads in Lytton's Diary and Goodnight Sweetheart and appeared in The Singing Detective and Outnumbered, playing Grandad Frank. His film credits included Truly Madly Deeply (1990) and Black Beauty (1994), and he appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010). He died in 2014.
