Plot summary
Grace Beasley is a timid housewife in Chicago whose favorite singer is Victor Fox. Her husband, Max, asks for a divorce, saying he wants more variety and excitement and that he dislikes her singing, and their son Andrew is divorcing his wife, Maudey. Grace wins tickets to a Victor Fox concert, but the event is cancelled, and she learns the singer has been murdered. She flies to England for the funeral, where a newspaper dedication to Victor defines unconditional love and is signed D.S. While sending flowers, Grace discovers that another arrangement carried the same phrase, sent by Victor's valet, Dirk Simpson. She gets the address from the florist and finds Dirk grieving at Victor's home. Victor's relatives mistake her for a recording executive.
