Clifton Young

Biography

Clifton Young was an American film actor who started out as a child performer, after his father put him in vaudeville at the age of five. He moved into Our Gang comedies at seven and played Bonedust in nineteen of them between 1925 and 1931, most memorably in School's Out. As an adult he adopted his mother's maiden name, Clifton, to avoid confusion with the established star Robert Young, and signed with Warner Bros. as a contract player, taking small parts in 1940s film noir and westerns. His credits included Nora Prentiss (1947), Pursued (1947), Possessed (1947), Dark Passage (1947) and Blood on the Moon (1948). He was also a regular in the Joe McDoakes comedy shorts, playing a mobster, a department-store clerk and Homer, the office know-it-all. Trail of Robin Hood (1950), a Roy Rogers western in which he played a sneering villain, was one of his last films. He died in 1951.
