A role that slipped away
While his Late Night career was growing, Elliott tried out for Saturday Night Live when Lorne Michaels came back to the show in 1985. He got the offer but said no so he could remain at Letterman.
First role
Elliott began at Late Night with David Letterman as a production assistant from the show's February 1982 start, and was promoted to the writing staff in the middle of 1983.
Behind the award
Cabin Boy, which came out in 1994, earned Elliott a Razzie Award for Worst New Star after poor reviews and weak ticket sales, though the film later found a cult following.

Elliott played U.S. Marshal Chris Monsanto in the Adult Swim series Eagleheart, his first leading television role since Get a Life, produced by Conan O'Brien.
