Biography
Charlie Cox is an English actor born in Westminster and raised in East Sussex. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School after his first professional role in Dot the I (2003), then appeared in The Merchant of Venice (2004). His breakout came as Tristan Thorn in Stardust (2007), and he made his West End debut in Harold Pinter's The Lover and The Collection. He played Owen Sleater in Boardwalk Empire, sharing a Screen Actors Guild Award, and Jonathan Hellyer Jones in The Theory of Everything (2014). From 2015 he portrayed Matt Murdock in Daredevil and The Defenders, earning a Helen Keller Achievement Award. Other films include Casanova (2005), Stone of Destiny (2008), Glorious 39 (2009), There Be Dragons (2011), and King of Thieves (2018). He acted in Betrayal in the West End and on Broadway, starred in Kin and Treason, and made his video game debut in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, earning a Game Awards nomination.

First role
At eighteen, Cox landed his first professional part in the psychological thriller Dot the i, which came out in 2003. After filming wrapped, he enrolled at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
Early training
In the summer after his first year at Bristol Old Vic, Cox was cast as Lorenzo in The Merchant of Venice, breaking the school's rule against students auditioning for outside productions.
Big break
Cox played Tristan Thorn, the lead, in the 2007 fantasy film Stardust, starring opposite Claire Danes. The movie did well with critics and audiences around the world and brought Cox to a wider audience.

In London, Cox first appeared in the West End at the Ambassadors Theatre, taking part in Harold Pinter's The Lover/The Collection.
