Plot summary
Every fifty years Britain's vampire overlords meet at a countryside farmhouse to set quotas, and this time one seat at the table is empty. Vanessa arrives late with Sebastian Crockett, an Essex man who believes he is in for a night with her; she proposes him for the empty seat, but Peter Boniface objects. When Sebastian tries to leave, he is caught and shut in the basement with Mr. and Mrs. Thatcher, the couple who own the farm. Elsewhere a unit of soldiers waits in the woods, surprised to find more than one cold body in the area, and prepares to strike.
