Plot summary
Russ teaches school and Anna is an optometrist. The two broke up, and since then they split each week to look after Merv, the dog they had together. Merv loses his spark, and he is diagnosed with depression. Russ thinks a change of scene will lift the dog, so he drives him to Florida and checks him into a dog hotel there. Anna believes the dog is still unhappy and travels after them without saying so.
