Plot summary
A coup on Romulus puts the Reman leader Shinzon at the head of the Empire, where a faction of the military backs him and the Senate refuses an alliance. The Enterprise, meanwhile, is carrying newly married William Riker and Deanna Troi toward a second ceremony on Troi's homeworld when it picks up an energy trace on Kolarus III; Jean-Luc Picard, Worf and Data find the remains of an android built like Data, named B-4. Starfleet then sends the ship to Romulus, where Shinzon offers the Federation peace. The clone was secretly created by the Romulans and left on Remus as a slave.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director Stuart Baird and producer Rick Berman needed someone who looked like Patrick Stewart about 25 years younger. They considered Jude Law, but Baird wanted an unknown, and Stewart asked Tom Hardy's agent whether any of his clients might fit.
- Tom Hardy ignored the audition text he was sent, got hold of the whole script, picked a different scene and filmed himself partly nude. He thought his Los Angeles screen test with Stewart was "appalling", so he handed Baird a tape of the same speech shot in his hotel room, and got the part days later.
SPOILER
Patrick Stewart pushed back on an early version of the story in which Shinzon was Picard's lost son rather than his clone, saying the idea had been done and produced uninteresting emotional dynamics.- Digital Domain delivered more than 30 minutes of effects across 400 shots with only five months to work, since much of the material did not reach them until May 2002, and farmed out about 15 percent of the work to other studios.
- The first digital model of Shinzon's ship, the Scimitar, ran to more than two million polygons and took two hours to render one frame. Art director Ron Gress and modeling lead Jay Barton cut it back to roughly 1.5 million so it could be rendered more easily.
SPOILER
Almost every ship shot was computer generated, but for the climax the crew built a physical 17-foot Enterprise saucer and crashed it into a model of the Scimitar.- The first cut ran 160 minutes and was cut to under two hours, losing Beverly Crusher's departure for a new medical post, Geordi La Forge dating Leah Brahms and Wesley Crusher's appearance at the wedding.
