Anita Sharp-Bolster
Biography
Anita Sharp-Bolster worked as an Irish actress, with screen credits in 88 films and 12 television series between 1928 and 1978. Born in County Cork, she made her screen debut in the British film What Money Can Buy (1928) and entered American cinema in Alfred Hitchcock's Saboteur (1942). She became a steady presence in character roles, and one 2013 book called her one of Hollywood's most memorable human gargoyles. Her stage work took her to Broadway, where she appeared in productions such as Pygmalion, and she also worked with the BBC in radio. Credited as Anita Bolster, she played the witch Bathia Mapes in three March 1968 episodes of Dark Shadows, a role that involved trying and failing to lift the vampire curse from Barnabas Collins. She died in 1985.
