Plot summary
Michael J. Cochran ends twelve years of Navy service and, with no plans, takes a holiday. Two matched Beretta shotguns and an invitation reach him from Tiburon Mendez, a Mexican crime boss whom he once flew to Alaska on a hunting trip, and Cochran travels to the Mendez hacienda. There he meets Miryea, Mendez's young wife, who lives in luxury but is unhappy because her older husband wants no children. Cesar, Mendez's wary right-hand man, resents Cochran for behaving independently rather than like an employee. Cochran and Miryea get better acquainted, and a romantic attraction grows between them.

- Revenge languished in development hell for eleven years; John Huston was to direct Jack Nicholson, then Orson Welles was attached. Writer Jim Harrison recalled he wrote about 12 different endings to it.
- Tony Scott borrowed assets from his Top Gun work for Revenge, including Navy personnel who arranged footage of F-14s over rough desert terrain; the opening sequence's cockpit simulators were the same ones used in Top Gun.
- Producer Ray Stark acquired the rights to Revenge from Warner Bros, trading the studio the film Bird in exchange.
- Revenge was poorly received critically and at the box office, but gained a cult following after its release, credited to its dark theme and Tony Scott's direction.
